We highlight current cyber security threats in New Zealand, and provide guidance on what to do if they affect you.
A new ransomware campaign is spreading in Russia. Called Bad Rabbit, it is also affecting some networks in Ukraine, Turkey and Germany.
Users are getting affected on Russian media websites, where ads display fake Adobe Flash software updates. When the software is downloaded and run, the user is infected with ransomware.
Bad Rabbit is reportedly only affecting Windows computers.
The incident appears to be confined to Eastern Europe. There have been no reports of Bad Rabbit affecting computers in New Zealand at this point.
Once infected with the ransomware, users will lose access to their computer. They will see an image like the one below:
